Siemens Debuts Generative AI-Powered Industrial Copilot at Hannover Messe 2024

Siemens has unveiled its generative AI product for engineering in an industrial environment at Hannover Messe, taking place April 22-26 in Hanover, Germany.

Available via the Xcelerator marketplace beginning this summer, Siemens Industrial Copilot aims to accelerate complex automation code, reduce development times and increase productivity.

According to the company, the product is the first generative AI-powered assistant for industrial engineering. It connects to Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation Portal, which integrates the key components of an automation project.

This enables engineers to access help topics and generate code for programmable logic controllers faster to offload repetitive tasks to the Siemens Industrial Copilot.

Siemens said that it also makes complex engineering tasks less susceptible to errors, which in turn reduces overall development times and boosts quality and productivity.

Siemens and Microsoft announced that they planned to collaborate on a generative AI-powered assistant at Hannover Messe 2023.

Siemens Industrial Copilot combines automation and process simulation information from Siemens’ digital business platform Siemens Xcelerator and large language models in Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, which can augment the creation and optimization of code in software for factory automation.

Industrial automation solution provider Grenzebach Group has been testing Siemens Industrial Copilot to see how generative AI can augment the company’s processes and support engineers to reduce time, effort and probability of errors.

The company is targeting manufacturing and mechanical engineering processes in industries including automotive, infrastructure, transportation and health care.
