Fidelity Data Breach Impacts More Than 28,000 Customers
While exact details are not yet known, the company said personal information including names, Social Security numbers and bank accounts were compromised
Fidelity Investments has disclosed a data breach that impacted more than 28,000 customers.
In a notice submitted to the Maine attorney general’s office, Fidelity said the breach occurred between October and November last year, and was likely the result of an unauthorized third party obtaining data held by services provider Infosys McCamish Systems (IMS).
While Fidelity said it is currently unable to determine exactly what personal information was compromised, it said it likely included name, Social Security number, state of residence, bank account and routing number.
Fidelity said it identified the issue in early November when IMS alerted the company to service disruptions as a result of a cybersecurity event.
Since then, Fidelity said it has been working with IMS to “investigate and contain” the event, implement remedial measures, and restore services.
“We take this event and the security of personal information in our care and in the care of our vendors very seriously,” Fidelity said in the notice. “Upon learning of this incident … we conducted a manual review of our records to identify the individuals potentially affected by this event.
“In addition, we remain engaged with IMS as they continue their investigation of this incident and its impact on the data they maintain.”
The incident is the latest in a spate of data breaches, affecting companies including streaming services provider Roku, U-Haul and Bank of America.
