Ovum Releases IoT Subscription Service, Hosts Conference, and Announces Awards

Market research company Ovum last week announced the rollout of an enhanced IoT subscription service, which offers access to Ovum forecasts, customer insights and industry analysis. The service includes access to Ovum’s industry analysts.

Ovum (whose parent company, Informa, also owns this The IoT Institute) also launched an IoT event, Ovum IoT Future, today alongside Informa’s Internet of Things World 2017 conference in Santa Clara, Calif. Led by Alexandra Rehak, Ovum’s practice leader for IoT, Ovum will present its 2017 IoT Insight survey findings; discuss the direction of IoT investment; and deliver market intelligence on wearables, smart home, VR/AR, artificial intelligence, and industrial IoT, the company said.

At Ovum IoT Futures, Ovum will announce the winners of its IoT awards program, which recognizes organizations that have advanced the IoT industry with innovative approaches, use of IoT services, or advocacy of IoT benefits. The awards program has three categories: IoT Market Award, which recognizes an organization or vendor that plays a major role in Industrial IoT development; Consumer IoT Award, which recognizes an organization or vendor that provides products, services or strategies aimed at the consumer IoT market; and the IoT in Industry Award, which recognizes a company that has had a significant impact through the use of IoT within their vertical industry. Award finalists are Cisco, HCL, and Verizon for the IoT Market Award; Amazon, Samsung, and Vivint for the Consumer IoT Award; and AT&T, Cloudera-Cerner and Philips Lighting for the IoT in Industry Award.

Swarm Technology Partners with Phi-Robotics for Edge Processing, Swarm Robotics

At IoT World today, Swarm Technology LLC announced a partnership with Phi-Robotics Research Pvt. Ltd., based in India. The deal matches the intellectual property from Swarm’s Solidarity Cell Architecture—which uses “distributed intelligence” to enable IoT edge processing and “swarm” robotics—with IP from Phi-Robotics’ products in the embedded systems distributed systems, and computer vision space. Swarm robotics is an approach to robotics in which large numbers of robots exhibit collective—or “swarm”—behavior, similar to how some insects interact and move en masse. The partnership is designed to produce a hardware/software development kit that enables easy implementation of edge processing and swarm robotics applications, Swarm Technology, which is based in Mesa, Ariz., said. According to Swarm Technology, the kit, referred to as the Rover, is modular and supports the five principles of swarm intelligence: awareness, autonomy, solidarity, expandability and resiliency.

IPgallery Releases Software to Extend Driver ‘View’ in Connected Cars

Smart-city software and services company IPgallery this week launched the Connected Cars in Urban Environments software product, which, the Atlanta company said, extends automobile drivers’ “view” beyond the line of sight and range limitations of vehicle sensors, cameras and devices. Connected Cars in Urban Environments accomplishes this by complementing a vehicle’s assisted driver assistance systems with traffic light, pedestrian crossing and traffic load information. The product aims to increase driver, passenger and pedestrian safety.

GrammaTech Integrates CodeSonar Code Analysis Tool with Wind River Workbench

Also at IoT World today, GrammaTech Inc., a maker of software assurance tools and cyber-security products, announced the integration of its CodeSonar code analysis tool for C/C++, Java and binary languages with the Workbench development tool suite from Wind River Systems Inc. of Alameda, Calif. The integration will let developers resolve vulnerabilities pinpointed by CodeSonar without leaving the Wind River environment, according to GrammaTech, which is based in Ithaca, N.Y. CodeSonar supports Wind River’s VxWorks operating system and the POSIX API and offers whole program static analysis of software and device drivers in either kernel or user mode. The company updated CodeSonar in 2015 with special features aimed at easing development of embedded IoT applications. Integration between CodeSonar and Wind River Workbench comes with the CodeSonar Eclipse plug-in and free for customers covered by a software maintenance contract.
