Three More Automakers Integrate ChatGPT Into Vehicles
It’s another significant milestone for Stellantis, which includes Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram among its brands
ChatGPT is set to be integrated into more new cars from three of Stellantis’ most prominent European automakers.
Models from France’s Peugeot, Germany’s Opel and the United Kingdom’s Vauxhall will all feature the AI-based tool on their SoundHound Chat AI voice assistance system.
The tech is already available on cars in 11 countries – including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the U.K. – and by the end of July, this will increase to cover 17 nations in total, plus 12 different languages.
The rollout marks another significant milestone for Stellantis, the global giant that includes U.S. brands Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram among its stable.
In April, another of its companies, France’s DS Automobiles, became the first automaker in the world to go into full production with a voice assistant featuring the latest generative AI tech.
While this announcement means that new Peugeots, Opels and Vauxhalls will feature integrated ChatGPT, some older models from the brands will also benefit from over-the-air software updates available on demand.
SoundHound, based in Santa Clara, California, says ChatAI has been designed to offer a wide range of functions, allowing drivers to manage navigation, make calls and access sports results and weather updates without taking their hands off the wheel.
But the integration of ChatGPT opens up a world of new possibilities, allowing conversation to flow more naturally and transforming the in-car experience.
SoundHound suggests an example of where it might prove a major asset, for example, is in providing advice on the most desirable route between two cities, with guidance on what the weather will be, attractions to visit while traveling and EV charging points on the way.
“Our collaboration with Stellantis has put both companies right at the cutting edge of innovation in the automotive sector, bringing the driver experience into a new and exciting era,” said Michael Zagorsek, COO of SoundHound AI.
“SoundHound is proud to deliver voice AI technology that meets the market’s demand for a next-generation consumer experience built on natural conversation.”
The integration of generative AI into voice assistance tech is gathering momentum rapidly in the automotive world.
Recent weeks have seen Germany’s Volkswagen confirm ChatGPT will be used on several models – including the entire family of ID electric vehicles.
It was swiftly followed by Audi. In both instances, the integration has been made possible via Massachusetts software company Cerence’s Chat Pro solution.
