Robotics Automates Pizza Delivery Service
Piestro and Serve Robotics respond to increased post-pandemic demand for contactless food delivery
Robotic pizzeria developer Piestro is collaborating with Serve Robotics to create an end-to-end contactless pizza service; from creation to delivery.
Under the collaboration, after fulfilling a customer order, Piestro’s robotic pizza vending machine,, will notify Serve Robotics’ fleet of sidewalk delivery robots and schedule one to collect the pizza and take it to the customer.
The service is expected to roll out in the coming months, as Piestro deploys units in several of Serve’s delivery areas in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.
“Robotic delivery is contactless and reliable, with a higher on-time rate than couriers,” said Massimo De Marco, CEO of Piestro. “[It] will allow our customers to get their pizzas even faster than before – all at the touch of their fingertips.”
Serve’s autonomous delivery robots can carry up to four Piestro pizzas and complete deliveries in under 15 minutes. Secure delivery is ensured by a unique customer passcode that is required to retrieve the pizzas.
As well as enabling time savings and contactless delivery, Serve says its robots are zero-emission, offering a more environmentally-friendly alternative.
“Serve’s zero-emission robots … [outperform] vehicle delivery in key metrics like on-time arrival and order completion,” said Ali Kashani, co-founder and CEO of Serve Robotics. “Together, we offer customers a quick, contactless experience that also benefits the environment.”
