Wing, Doordash Begin Drone Deliveries From Two Dallas-Fort Worth Malls
Partnership with Brookfield Properties will allow more than 50 mall tenants to sell food via drone
Wing is further expanding its drone-delivery “menu” in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with a partnership with food-delivery service DoorDash and Brookfield Properties, the owner of Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and Hulen Mall in Fort Worth.
Starting today, DoorDash users will be able to order drone deliveries from more than 50 merchants at the two malls in what Wing bills as a “first-of-its-kind” service for U.S. shopping malls. Using the DoorDash app, customers in the service zone can have their drone deliveries flown to their doorsteps in as little as 15 minutes.
Wing is owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet.
During this trial period, users who select “drone” as their method of delivery will get a $0 delivery fee, although they will still pay a service charge, DoorDash said. The partnership with Brookfield builds on previous DoorDash-Wing trials, including a 2022 pilot program in Logan in Australia’s South East Queensland region and a tie-in with Wendy’s in Christiansburg, Virginia.
Brookfield Properties is one of the largest commercial landlords in the world, with vast holdings of malls, as well as hotels, apartments, warehouses and offices. Through its partnership with Wing, the company intends to explore ways to incorporate drone deliveries into its shopping centers and take advantage of previously underutilized spaces, like excess parking and rooftops, to reach more customers at home.
“We are proud to be the first landlord to provide drone delivery as another avenue to help our tenants serve our communities,” said Katie Kurtz, Brookfield Properties’ senior vice president of business development. “We’re committed to meeting the changing needs of the ways people shop. Brookfield Properties has a strong track record of evolving our assets and leading ahead of the curve in retail.”
