Inspection Robot’s Decision-Making, Navigation Skills Expand
ANYbotics, GMV partner to improve the autonomy and decision-making capabilities of inspection robot ANYmal, in a bid to support robot uptake
ANYbotics is expanding the decision-making and navigation capabilities of its inspection robot, ANYmal, in a new partnership with GMV.
Under the collaboration, GMV will integrate its cloud-based autonomous robot movement platform uPathWay with ANYmal, ANYbotics’ quadruped inspection robot, to improve its outdoor navigation capabilities and enable real-time fleet optimization.
The team called the collaboration a “significant step” toward the widespread uptake of robots across industries, improving their autonomy and usability.
GMV’s uPathWay platform uses a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to give robots more precise location accuracy and real-time re-routing capabilities. It also leverages AI to control self-driving vehicles and 5G to transmit large amounts of data and control commands to the robots.
By integrating this system into ANYmal, the partners aim to give the robots more autonomous capabilities as they move around an inspection site, navigating potentially hazardous environments and making decisions on the go.
“At GMV, we are dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art autonomous robotics solutions that adhere to the highest quality standards,” said Ángel C. Lázaro, GMV’s head of industrial sector robotics and automation. “This partnership with ANYbotics represents a significant milestone in industrial automation, reaffirming our commitment to driving innovation in this field.”
"ANYmal's integration with GMV's uPathWay fits seamlessly into ANYbotics' strategic vision for AI-driven autonomous mobility,” said Enzo Wälchli, ANYbotics’ chief commercial officer. “This integration enables ANYmal to efficiently handle complicated outdoor inspection tasks across multiple industries by leveraging the power of a cloud platform to perform multiple tasks. It gives our robots a decisive advantage in dynamic environments."
