Family Robot Companion Now Commercially Available
Enabot’s EBO X is designed to be a one-stop-shop domestic robot, providing security, telehealth and communication services
Robotics company Enabot has released its family companion robot EBO X into commercialization, in what it calls an “industry first.”
Described as a “three-in-one home guardian,” the small-scale mobile robot is equipped to provide security and telehealth support, as well as home entertainment and communication services.
EBO X’s commercial launch follows the company’s successful Kickstarter campaign in March, which raised $455,000 to propel the robot into commercialization.
The wheeled robot is fitted with a camera, night-time vision, speaker and built-in Alexa to provide the eyes and ears in a home when the owner is not there. Health care-related features include fall detection and medication reminders, while security features include an Intrusion Alert, which sends a notification to users when someone enters an area designated as off-limits.
According to Enabot, EBO X was created primarily to connect users to loved ones while away from the home, using the robot as a method of communication.
“The EBO X [is] a smart home device that connects people with those they care about,” according to a company statement. “It permits multiple members of a family to log in and chat together at once…Users can even leave their relatives a message by typing a text that will be transformed into a voice message.”
The robot made its debut this year at CES, where it was named “Innovation Awards Honoree” in both the smart home and robotics product categories.
