AWS, Siemens Expand Partnership to Bridge OT/IT Divide
The announcement is one of several new innovations as part of AWS’ cloud expo, re:Invent, in Las Vegas
AWS has expanded its partnership with Siemens to more seamlessly connect physical devices with the cloud.
Under the expanded collaboration, AWS’ IoT SiteWise Edge software can be deployed directly from Siemens’ Industrial Edge Marketplace, removing some of the barriers between physical assets and the cloud and allowing customers to “start ingesting OT data from a variety of industrial protocols.”
AWS’ SiteWise is designed to collect, process and monitor equipment data and the companies said the expanded offering is hoped to close the IT/OT gap and “simplify, accelerate and reduce the cost of sending industrial equipment data to the cloud.”
Closing the IT/OT gap was also highlighted by the companies as helping accelerate the uptake of connected technologies across industries, with the existing interoperability gap proving a significant obstacle to adoption.
“This collaboration between AWS and Siemens marks a significant milestone in the journey toward OT-IT convergence, propelling the industrial sector closer to realizing the full potential of digital transformation,” the companies said. “By creating a direct link between Siemens Industrial Edge infrastructure and AWS IoT SiteWise, this offering is another step towards liberating valuable OT data generated on the shop floor and transforming it into actionable insights.”
The announcement is one of several expanded partnerships AWS announced as part of its re:Invent expo in Las Vegas.
The company also unveiled expanded capabilities for its IoT FleetWise platform, with the service now supporting data collection from multiple connected vehicle sensors.
