As millions of sports fans and athletes flock to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, TomTom has introduced a specialized traffic index offering real-time, detailed insights into the city's road conditions.

The Paris Traffic Index not only monitors congestion levels but also tracks the total number of traffic jams, ensuring smoother navigation for everyone in the bustling city.

An interactive map provides users with detailed views of traffic flow in the city. The platform features accurate information on the time it would take a road user to travel 6 miles.

Detailed graphs show congestion data from the last 48 hours and seven days, helping drivers understand better when roads are quieter to plan their journeys across the city.

Even without an event as massive in scale as the Olympics, Paris is one of Europe's most congested cities. Mobility software provider Inrix ranks Paris as the most congested city on the continent, with drivers wasting on average 70 hours each year in traffic.

Ahead of the Olympics, TomTom partnered with the French Ministry of Transport and Paris traffic authorities to provide real-time detailed traffic information.

TomTom obtained access to the city’s traffic management decisions, enabling its maps to be as up-to-date and accurate as possible.

The Parisian highway authority will leverage a traffic data platform from the PTV Group, powered by TomTom’s data throughout the games to ensure road users receive up-to-the-minute information on traffic conditions and road closures.

“With TomTom’s Traffic Index Paris Special Edition, both businesses and drivers can easily view congestion levels compared to normal conditions and access real-time journey times,” Sandra Zialcita, a communications manager at TomTom wrote in a blog. “It's all about keeping Paris moving smoothly during the Olympics.”
