Semi-Humanoid Robot Unveiled by Service Robot Maker

Using AI, Pudu Robotics’ semi-humanoid robot can continuously learn and refine its operations over time

Pudu Robotics has unveiled a semi-humanoid robot that represents a significant advancement in its mission to develop cutting-edge solutions to address operational challenges businesses face worldwide.

The Pudu D7 is the company’s first general embodied intelligent semi-humanoid robot.

Unveiled Thursday, Pudu said it anticipates full commercialization of the humanoid next year. 

Felix Zhang, founder and CEO of Pudu Robotic, said the Pudu D7 highlights the company’s commitment to continuous technological and product innovation. 

“Featuring advanced mobility, versatile operational capabilities and embodied intelligence, this semi-humanoid robot marks a significant milestone in our pursuit of a diverse range of robotic solutions," Zhang said. "By advancing a comprehensive ecosystem of specialized robots, semi-humanoid robots and humanoid robots, we aim to shape the future of the service robotics industry and deliver exceptional value across various applications.”

The company introduced the semi-humanoid robot concept in May as part of its strategic vision for the service robotics industry focusing on the development of three robot types: specialized robots for specific tasks, semi-humanoid robots for adaptable and versatile applications and fully humanoid robots for complex human interactions.

The Pudu 07 semi-humanoid robot combines advanced mobility and dexterity with a human-like upper body with robotic arms and a fully omnidirectional chassis, the company said. 

It is designed to handle complex tasks in diverse environments including industrial settings, which the company said marks “a significant step towards adaptable robotic solutions for multiple industries.”

The Pudu 07 is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 99 pounds. Its arm can extend up to two feet and has 30 degrees of motion. 

With a dexterous hand attachment, the robot can expand 50 degrees and the bionic arms can lift 22 pounds. Battery-powered, it can work continuously for more than eight hours. Pudu said these features will help it excel in operating elevators, transporting items and sorting tasks. 

The semi-humanoid robot uses a multi-layered intelligence system that combines data-driven embodied intelligence with advanced AI model strategies. Besides understanding and responding to complex scenarios, the robot can continuously learn and refine its operations over time.
