Hyundai, Kia Unveil DAL-e Delivery Robot
The wheeled delivery robot features facial recognition and autonomous driving
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia have unveiled a new delivery robot, DAL-e.
The model builds on a previous iteration released in December 2022 and features facial recognition technology and autonomous driving capabilities. The companies designed it for use in retail and hospitality environments.
The robot can carry up to 16 cups of coffee and items weighing up to 22 pounds and comes equipped with an array of environmental recognition sensors for obstacle navigation. It can integrate with a building’s elevators and door control systems, enabling it to move throughout a space with little to no human intervention.
AI-enabled facial recognition also allows DAL-e to deliver goods to workers without requiring a password or additional security measures.
The new model is set to debut at IGIS Asset Management’s Factorial Seongsu robot-friendly smart office in the second quarter of this year.
“DAL-e Delivery offers efficient and reliable food and beverage, and parcel dispatch services to ensure customers receive goods promptly,” said Dong Jin Hyun, head of the robotics lab at Hyundai Motor and Kia. “Our vision extends to implementing infrastructure interworking across diverse spaces, including offices, restaurants and shopping malls.”
