Educational Robotics With 3D Mapping, Advanced Vision at CES 2024
The robots, developed by Orbbec and Hiwonder, are designed to offer real-world robotics training to students
Orbbec, a 3D vision systems developer, has partnered with Hiwonder, a manufacturer of educational robots to bring new vision, mapping and navigation capabilities to robot operations.
The collaboration was announced at CES last week.
Under the partnership, Hiwonder’s JetHexa ROS Hexapod Robot Kit and JetAuto Robot Car have integrated Orbbec’s Astra+ 3D camera into their systems, enabling high-resolution vision for 3D scanning, mapping, obstacle avoidance, navigation and other functions.
The robots are designed to introduce different robotic systems to students in educational environments.
Other features also include color recognition and tracking, vision line following, target object and tag tracking, as well as human body and fingertip trajectory recognition.
The robots’ systems are powered by Nvidia’s Jetson Nano neural network kit, allowing users to run multiple neural networks in tandem for applications like image classification, object detection, segmentation and speech processing.
“Our partnership with Hiwonder brings 3D vision and AI into the classroom with easy-to-use kits,” said Amit Banerjee, Orbbec’s head of platform and partnerships. “We have a shared goal to make the robotics technology accessible to educators, students and developers for hands-on learning experiences.”
Orbbec also hosted a demonstration of the JetHexa ROS Hexapod Robot Kit at CES.
