The differentiators for using data and AI in retail are around service, making operations efficient to free up colleagues to do their jobs, according to John Lewis chief data and insight officer Barry Panayi.

Speaking at the Quantum Summit London, Panayi discusses the role of data and AI in retail and how people and technology can work together.

Retail use cases for AI were originally limited to marketing and customer care but have now evolved into optimizing the supply chain, working out ideal prices and reductions, optimizing call center operations, and calculating what products to stock and where.
