The government of Singapore has signaled its ongoing commitment to strengthen its position as a global quantum hub with a $222 million investment over five years into its National Quantum Strategy (NQS).

The NQS funding is aimed at four separate initiatives. The first is for the Center for Quantum Technologies research center of excellence elevated to a flagship national research center.

A new national quantum sensor program would be established under Singapore’s Quantum Engineering Program 3.0, which aims to realize the benefits of quantum technologies for society. Existing national-level quantum programs would also receive funding to enhance  current capabilities to meet industry needs.

Singapore plans to set up a National Quantum Processor Initiative to design and build its own practical quantum processor to support its domestic quantum computing capabilities,

Finally, Singapore will establish a national quantum scholarship scheme to ensure a talent pipeline is in place to support the research and development initiatives.

Deputy prime minister Heng Swee Keat also launched a green data center roadmap to guide digital sustainability and chart green growth pathways for data centers, to ensure AI and quantum computing developments are supported sustainably.

The roadmap aims to provide at least 300 megawatts of additional electrical power capacity in the near term, with a greater percentage coming from green energy sources.

The roadmap also aims to improve data center hardware and software energy efficiency and accelerate green energy take-up to further extend capability.
