Qualcomm, Kittch Release AR Glasses for Cooking
Iron Chef Ming Tsai guides users through recipes and videos in the interactive cooking experience
Qualcomm and culinary tech company Kittch have created AR-enabled glasses that can teach users how to cook.
The glasses were unveiled at the Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, California this week.
The collaboration uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform to bring AR capabilities to Kittch’s existing cooking app.
To use the new glasses, users can select a recipe from a mobile app and then follow the steps to make the selected recipe that is displayed on the AR glasses. Interactive videos were also filmed with Iron Chef Ming Tsai, displayed alongside instructions to enable a more immersive experience.
The new feature was demoed by Tsai in a video.
AR gesture control also allows users to set timers and order ingredients as they go.
"Our mission at Kittch is to transform the cooking experience…[and] help consumers rediscover the joy and creativity they can experience in the kitchen,” said Brian Bedol, Kittch’s CEO. “Through this collaboration, we are able to deliver a seamless and immersive environment for home cooks … turning cooking from a frustrating chore into a delightful and joyful experience."
"This collaboration demonstrates the transformative impact that augmented reality can have on everyday activities,” said Patrick Costello, Qualcomm’s senior executive. “By integrating cutting-edge technology with culinary expertise, we are enabling a new era of interactive and enjoyable cooking experiences."
