Cisco Investments Tops List of Big Spenders in IoT Space

Investments and acquisitions in the Internet of Things continue apace, with telecom and other tech companies plowing more than $31B into the market from 2011 to 2015. So who are the big spenders?

In recent years, well-known players like Cisco, Intel, Google, and Qualcomm have invested heavily in Internet of Things companies as they work to build out their ecosystems. In fact, it's hard to think of a big company in the space that has not made an acquisition of late.

And that spending continues apace—according to CB Insights, the first quarter of 2016 was one of the strongest ever for IoT funding with $846 million in financing. That's a whopping 31% percent increase in dollars quarter-over-quarter.
