A manufacturer of power sport and all-terrain vehicles as well as pontoon boats has launched a fully automated assembly line manned by robots at its Garland, Texas factory.

Massimo builds all-terrain vehicles for recreation as well as defense applications, like its Warrior MXD unit.

The company is installing a purpose-built addition to its vehicle production line in its 376,000-square-foot factory that will be manned by automated guided robots (AGRs).

David Shan, Massimo’s founder, chair and CEO said the company wanted to enhance its manufacturing flexibility and increase annual production.

“We believe with the increased operating efficiencies from the new automated assembly robot line, we can further enhance margins while continuing to grow our revenue and expand our product line with new models and capabilities,” Shan said.

Massimo’s robotic workers are designed to replace traditional fixed workstations. The robots will move vehicles like quads along the assembly line along predetermined pathways to locations where they will eventually be placed on pallets and shrink-wrapped before shipping.

Each robot can be individually controlled allowing operators to easily remove an individual unit as needed without impacting overall production.

The vehicle manufacturer says its new automated production line will increase assembly efficiency by 50% while decreasing labor and improving safety for assembly line workers.

The introduction of robots in its factory comes after Massimo expanded its Garland facility by 90,000 square feet to support increased production.

“By implementing this industry-leading automated manufacturing infrastructure, we hope to ensure Massimo can continue to deliver the same uncompromising quality, reliability, durability and performance our customers have come to expect, while simultaneously adding significant efficiencies and safety advantages to the production process,” said Shan.
